EPHA - Volunteer Policy (2007-08 Season)

The Eden Prairie Hockey Association has adopted a new volunteer policy.

For our hockey association to provide a positive experience it needs to have volunteers. In the past, too few of the EPHA parents have shouldered the brunt of the duties during the season. Thus the EPHA board considered several options which surrounding communities have implemented and the board feels this was the best policy to try to insure a quality experience for both the kids and the parents.

Please read and become familiar with the guidelines:

  1. All players (parents/families) at the Junior Gold A & B, U16, Bantam, Peewee, Squirt A, B1 or B2 and Girls U14, U12 and U10 shall perform ten (10) hours of volunteer service per season.

All players (parents/families) at the Bantam C, Peewee C, and Squirt C levels shall perform five (5) hours of service annually.

* Families with multiple players shall be assessed volunteer hours as follows: first player 100%, second player 75%, third or more players 50%.

  1. Volunteer opportunities and sign-up will be listed on the EPHA Website and available with the team manager. Volunteer hours will be tracked by the team manager and the Volunteer Coordinator. An example of volunteer positions would be coaching, team manager, tournament scoring & clock, food sales, clothing sales, fundraising and golf tournament. A complete list will be posted on the website. These are exclusive of jobs done for your own team.

  2. The penalty for not meeting your volunteer requirements for the year will be as follows:
  • A penalty amount of $250 per player for not meeting requirement.

  • Players failing to meet 100% of the requirement must pay the entire penalty.

  • Players not meeting the requirement will not be allowed to register the following season until a check for $250 is received.
  1. Qualified volunteers must be capable of performing the tasks and must be 16 years or older (18 or older to operate the clock or keep score). The Volunteer Coordinator shall determine if the volunteer is capable.

  2. Volunteer Buyout Program:
Each player may buyout of their volunteer commitment at the beginning of the season for $150 per player or $350 per family.

  3. Volunteer Exemptions:
The following volunteer positions are presumed to require hours of participation well in excess of the requirement. Therefore, they are exempt from the volunteer service requirement for any and all players in their family.
  • Board Members

  • Commissioners & Coordinators

  • Head Coaches

  • Assistant coaches – They will be credited with meeting half-to-all of their volunteer commitment based on the approval of the head coach and the volunteer coordinator. The number of assistant coaches per team will be limited.

  • Team manager – only one per team.
