WHAT DO I NEED: Bring a big smile, great attitude, and willingness to try something new. Figure skates will be available FREE of charge, hockey skates also welcome. As long as you have a helmet on, you’re good to go. Hockey equipment is optional. Snow pants and a sweatshirt work for us if it works for you.

WHEN: One session per month starting in May, June, July and August.  Sessions will have a progression from basic skating, into hockey specific on-ice (and possibly off-ice activities), learning about equipment, and building connections going into the fall.

WHO: GIRLS ages 5-10 interested in learning to skate, trying hockey, supporting a friend, staying active, having fun, meeting friends and trying something new!  Really working to capture NEW Skaters and families who want to learn more about skating and hockey this summer.  NO EXPERIENCE necessary.

About Try Hockey for Free Events

Eden Prairie Hockey Association invites boys and girls to the Eden Prairie Community Center at various times throughout the year to experience one of its Try Hockey for Free clinics. Local youth, ages 4 to 9, are encouraged to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basic skills in a fun, safe environment.

“We look forward to welcoming families to the EPCC to try our great sport of ice hockey” said Kristin Olson, the former Mite Director. “Our goal is for these families to enjoy watching their kids learn new skills with big smiles on their faces.”Try Hockey for Free is a great way to start your journey as an Eden Prairie Eagles hockey player. Not every hockey journey is the same, but if you’re new to the sport, we’ve mapped out your first few steps to get started:

  • Attend Try Hockey for Free events to check out what hockey’s all about (Ages 4-9)
  • Sign up for a free 4-week, on-ice Rookie Camp (Ages 4-8)
  • Join a Termites team for an 8-week training camp and end with your first game! (Ages 4-6)
  • Join your first Mite/8U team for a full season of hockey. (Ages 5-8)

Eden Prairie’s Try Hockey for Free program is part of the larger USA Hockey's Try Hockey program. This program, , with the support of the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs, among others, is designed to provide youth hockey associations with a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport. USA Hockey has close to 500 locations offering this unique opportunity to kids nationwide.
